Curious Cabinet, part VI

Finishedoverallweb_2 I bet you thought that I forgot about my Curious Cabinet, didn't you?

Well I didn't and I finished it!  Woo hoo!

I'm so happy with the final product.  I think it looks fun and funky, with some nice organic elements.

I started with this and you can see the progression here:

More photos of the final product here .

I wasn't really going for shabby chic, but I did want a beat-up and worn look.  As if it had been hung up on the wall and slowly started growing moss.

It currently holds my Goodnight Moon itty-bitty teapot and my trailer trash tea set.

Oh, you want photos of those?  Well, I guess you'll just have to wait until the next post.

So many fabulous things have popped up in the last few days.

There's Heidi Kenney's amazing legs

Ooh, and the gorgeous magical paper dolls made by Amy Earles, via craftzine's blog.

Simple and lovely poppy dishcloths.  I'm just a sucker for a decorative dishcloth!

To commemorate Talk Like a Pirate Day, make something snazzy out of these.  I'm thinking about a new name plate at work . . . t-shirt patterns . . . what else?

Last, but not least . . . Coop is working on another round of paintblogging

On the mend

Poorbaby It's been a pretty crazy week or so, but things are starting to get back to normal.  Nikita had a trip to the emergency vet, surgery and a few days of painkillers.

While we wait for the stitches to heal, she's my little conehead.  I think it makes her look like a spacedog . . . or a martini glass.

She's also been all cooped up in the quietest part of the house and that makes her crazy, Krazy with a capital K.

In a quiet moment I managed to catch a photo of her and her bandage.  As you can see, she has a crafty veterinarian.  Everyone was cooing over her little leg with the heart.  So cute!

Pause

Lichtenstein_blam Things are going to be a bit sparse around here for a bit.

We are experiencing a state of emergency over here at Casa Annaramma.

Bad things:
- terrifying moments
- vet bills
- filing "reports"
- going to the DMV
- not enough hours in the day
- flakiness

Good things:
- coziness
- reassuring nurses
- office supplies
- comfort food
- a stiff drink
- going out to lunch
- making plans
- treats!

Not only does Lichtenstein's Blam! symbolize the chaos of this particular moment, but it's one of my favorite images.  I've always loved it and I think it would make a fabulous mural.  I've also contemplated using it as the inspiration for some kind of kitschy thing.  Perhaps an embroidered pillow or macaroni mosaic?

It's not clutter . . . it's a collection

DisplayI have all kinds of paper ephemera hanging around the house.  Everything from old invitations and clippings to prints and drawings.

So, I need to keep them from becoming piles of clutter.  Rather than just frame one or two (what fun is that?), I hang them from ribbons pinned to the wall.  I found tiny clothespins from Daiso that don't mar the paper or the ribbon.

The paper items can be updated, moved and adjusted depending on my mood or the season.  Plus, it's all commitment-free with just a few pinholes to show they were there.

I've been taking a little break from the internet this week.  It's been a busy week with a new job, a three-day weekend, house-guests and general chaos.  Things have simmered down a bit.

For now, here's some nifty things.

I love this idea.  I wonder how it would look in execution?  I have at least one window that could benefit from a little texture and privacy.

I am jealous of HeatherJeany's beautiful (and crafty) tattoo shown here.

I had no idea my ice cube trays were worth so much on eBay.  Frankly, I think they're worth every penny.  They make chunky cubes, never warp or crack and don't absorb fridge odor.  Plus there's the satisfying CRACK! when you pop out a batch of cubes.
